Amanda McGuire's powerful new single, 'The Value Of One' was inspired by the 'Air Force Academy Rape Scandal' aired by the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005(Aust.). Amanda was in tears when she heard each girl's story and so moved by the tragedy, that she went straight to her guitar and composed both lyrics and music in support of each victim's fight for justice.

Not just focusing on rape, 'The Value Of One' also addresses domestic violence and child poverty. Amanda speaks out and picture paints these painful types of abuse which will challenge mind sets and social values. Amanda is passionate, emotive and incredibly poetic as she challenges our responsibility to these social injustices, and yet still entertains!!

THE VALUE OF ONE (c) 2006 Amanda McGuire

I don't understand how we can
Close our eyes to the child
Starving alive
In our lifetime

I can't comprehend when I hear
Injustice in the camp
When a man assaults when he likes
And doesn't lose his rights

Bruised and confused
From the abuse
Have we mis-used
Our own value

Chorus
The value of one
Is greater than its sum
But the value of none
Seems higher than the one
So calculate the feeling
And multiply by reason
You'll get the meaning
That one sum equals...someone

I tried to imagine the fear
Of screaming in the house
Ending with blood and tears
'cause violence lives here

Blamed and ashamed
Ruled by mistakes
How can we break
Violence and hate

Bridge
Turn your head, just walk away
We're so occupied by our day to day
We'll I say, Oh I say it's not ok
Just to live and gaze
No it's not ok
We've got to change
The value of one
The value of one...yeah

Air Force Academy Rape Scandal

As reported by Oprah on the Oprah Winfrey Show, in the last 10 years, 142 cadets at the Air Force Academy made charges of sexual assault. The number of prosecutions? Zero!

CBS News March 6, 2003 reported the Air Force Secretary James Roche said, "The part that is the saddest thing... whatever we see, whatever the number is, 25, 50, there are probably a hundred more that we do not see."
